Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and the prime accused in the financial irregularities linked to the college's operations faced intense scrutiny on Sunday as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided his residence in Belgharia, Kolkata. The raid, which lasted for more than 13 hours, resulted in the seizure of several critical documents, potentially deepening the case against him.
The CBI team, consisting of seven members, including a female officer, arrived at Ghosh’s house at 6:50 AM. Despite their early arrival, they were left waiting outside for over an hour, as Ghosh did not respond to their calls or doorbell rings. It wasn't until 8:06 AM that Ghosh finally opened the door, allowing the CBI officials to enter and commence their search.
The operation, which continued for 12 hours and 40 minutes, ended at 8:46 PM, with the CBI officials leaving the premises carrying a bag reportedly filled with documents. These documents were quickly transported to the CBI’s Nizam Palace office and later moved to the CGO Complex for further examination.
The raid was part of the ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct at RG Kar Medical College, where Ghosh is being investigated following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, a case that has shaken the institution and the public alike. The lengthy search and the discovery of significant documents indicate a potential escalation in the legal troubles faced by Ghosh.
